On May 18, SHPIK held the first Conference for Global Accessibility Day in cooperation with SHVK (Association of the Blind in Kosovo). This important event aimed to raise awareness and promote inclusiveness for individuals with disabilities in Kosovo and beyond.
The conference focused on the Global Accessibility Day and presented the results of the accessibility barometer, where 66 websites of Kosovo’s public institutions were evaluated.
The accessibility barometer was presented at the conference, which for the first time in our country assessed the websites of public institutions regarding the fulfillment of international standards, such as:
Web Accessibility Directive (2016/2102/EU),
European Accessibility Act (EAA) and
United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
Meeting these standards is essential for people with disabilities, and in particular for blind people.
Of the 66 websites that were studied, only 7 achieved the desired results in terms of accessibility. The websites that achieved the desired results are: Ministry of Internal Affairs, Regional Water Company, Albanological Institute-Pristina, Tax Administration, Shpik, E-Kosova, and Ministry of Regional Development to which Shpik thanked you.
Additionally, as part of our ongoing efforts to improve accessibility, SHPIK has shared indexes for the 66 platforms studied. This index serves as a comprehensive guide, highlighting areas that require improvement to increase access for individuals with disabilities. By addressing these issues, we believe these platforms can become even more effective and accessible to all.
